CASE RESULTS

These are a small sample of some of Cliff Blakely?s success stories in court.

Attempted Murder
In a very highly publicized case in the Bay Area, Blakely represented a juvenile accused of slashing the throat of an elderly woman who was walking down the street with her husband. In the face of considerable public outcry, Cliff was able to collaborate with the prosecutor and the judge save the minor from being prosecuted in adult court to face the possibility of a long state prison sentence. That juvenile is now is a state developmental hospital where treatment is being provided in a safe, secure setting.

Rape
Blakely represented a man accused of forcible rape of a woman he had recently met at a nightclub. At the preliminary hearing, Cliff cross-examined the accuser, destroyed her credibility, and the judge refused to send the case to trial. Case dismissed.

Domestic Violence
Blakely represented a man who had been charged with Domestic Violence against his girlfriend, including an allegation that he broke the orbital bone in her face. After a heated trial, the jury was unable to reach a verdict in the case. The prosecutor re-filed charges against the client and Blakely immediately demanded a speedy trial. Again, Cliff aggressively fought for his client in front of a jury, and again, the prosecutor was unable to convict his client. The judge then dismissed the case.

Drug Possession with Intent to Sell
Blakely represented a man accused of possessing cocaine with intent to sell. After cross-examining the investigating officer and arguing the relevant caselaw, Blakely convinced the judge to suppress the evidence and the prosecutor was forced to dismiss the case.

Gun Possession and Resisting Arrest
Blakely represented a young man charged with illegally possessing a loaded gun in his car, and with physically resisting arrest. After showing evidence that the police were the aggressors during the arrest, the prosecutors were forced to dismiss the resisting arrest charges. At the ensuing jury trial, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty on the remaining gun possession charge.

Battery
Blakely represented a man accused of battery, a result of punching another man in the face, causing injury. What made this case interesting was that the accuser was an employee of the courthouse in which the case was to be tried! Blakely successfully navigated the sensitive issues surrounding the case, brought the case to trial (in front of a judge that knew the accuser), and won a full acquittal.
